ABSTRACT

@#AIM: To compare effects of combined glaucoma-cataract surgery on pseudoexfoliation glaucoma(PXG)and primary open angle glaucoma(POAG).<p>METHODS: This was a retrospective case-control study conducted the hospitalized patients at department of glaucoma from January 2015 to January 2018. The PXG group included 40 eyes of 38 cases, with 46 eyes of 36 cases on POAG group, which were matched for baseline data. Visual acuity, intraocular pressure(IOP), number of anti-glaucoma medications used and occurrence of complications were observed in both groups after trabeculectomy + phacoemulsification + IOL implantation. Surgical success was defined according to the following 2 criteria: criterion A: IOP≤21mmHg, criterion B: IOP≤18mmHg. Complete success, and qualified success is defined as patients met these criteria with medical treatment(≤3 medications). <p>RESULTS: The visual acuity was improved, with IOP and the number of anti-glaucoma medications used both reduced in both group after surgery. There was no statistically significant difference in complete and qualified success rates between the two groups at 1 and 3mo after surgery(<i>P</i>>0.05). Postoperative 6mo, 1 and 2a, for criterion A: the qualified success rates in PXG group(90%, 80%, 74%)were slightly lower than that of POAG group(91%, 86%, 82%, <i>P</i>>0.05). The complete success rates in PXG group(50%, 40%, 29%)were significantly lower than that of POAG group(85%, 64%, 61%, <i>P</i><0.05). For criterion B: the qualified success rates in PXG group(70%, 70%, 59%)were slightly lower than that of POAG group(80%, 80%, 75%, <i>P</i>>0.05). The complete success rates in PXG group(45%, 30%, 18%)were significantly lower than that of POAG group(78%, 61%, 54%, <i>P</i><0.05).<p>CONCLUSION: The combined glaucoma-cataract surgery in PXG and POAG patients can significantly improve visual acuity and reduce intraocular pressure. The short-term success rates of both types of glaucoma were similar, however the long-term success rates of PXG patients was significantly lower, and it was difficult to achieve a low level IOP.

ABSTRACT

Patent foramen ovale (PFO) is a common congenital heart disease that can cause cryptogenic stroke through paradoxical embolization. For patients with PFO combined with cryptogenic stroke, whether anticoagulant therapy is superior to antiplatelet therapy in the prevention of recurrent stroke? And whether PFO closure can significantly reduce the risk of stroke recurrence compared with medical therapy alone? All those raised the clinical problems to be solved urgently. The advances in treatment of cryptogenic stroke associated with PFO are herewith summarized in present paper by reviewing randomized trials,meta-analyses and the guidelines or expert consensus about PFO and cryptogenic stroke.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the antidepressant components of Polygala tenuifolia.</p><p><b>METHOD</b>The chromatographic method was used to isolate and purify the chemical constituents, their structures were identified by spectral analysis, MTT method was applied to investigate their cytotoxic activities.</p><p><b>RESULT</b>Nine compounds were isolated from the roots of P. tenuifolia. Their structures were identified as sibiricose A, (1), sibiricose A5 (2), tenuifoliside A (3) and 3', 6-disinapoyl sucrose (4), sibiricose A6 (5), 3, 4, 5-trimethoxycinnamate (6), polygalaxanthone III (7), tenuifolioses A (8), tenuifolioses H (9) and some compounds' activities to PC12 were observed.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Compound 1 was isolated from this plant for the first time. Compounds 2,3 could protect PC12 cells damage induced by P. tenuifolia.</p>

ABSTRACT

@#ObjectiveTo observe the effect of early rehabilitation on poststroke anxiety and depression.Methods137 stroke patients with hemiplegia were divided into the rehabilitation group (70 cases) and control group (67 cases). All patients in both two groups were given routine clinical treatment, but the patients in the rehabilitation group were given regular early rehabilitation. All patients were evaluated with Bathel Index (BI), Fugl-Meyer Motor Scale (FMMS), Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) and Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA) before and 3 months after treatment.ResultsAfter 3 months treatment, the scores of HAMD, HAMA, BI and FMMS of patients in the rehabilitation group increased significantly compared with those before treatment ( P<0.05~0.01), and those in the control group ( P<0.05). The scores of BI and FMMS of patients in the control group after treatment also increased significantly compared with those before treatment ( P<0.05). The incidences of depression and anxiety of the rehabilitation group were 22.86% and 5.71%, those of the control group were 40.30% and 16.42%, there was a significant difference between two groups( P<0.05).ConclusionThe early rehabilitation can obviously decrease anxiety and depression of stroke patients with hemiplegia.
